Devices to Access The Internet

1. Computer Hardware

The computer is an absolute requirement to access the computer. In general, the computer hardware needed to access the internet is almost the same as a regular computer. Specifications used computers and connections through the ISP will determine the fast or slow computer performance in accessing the internet. The computer specifications are as follows :

       a. Computer use at least 80 486 DX processor.
       b. RAM (Random Access Memory), capacity can be used about 32 MB (Megabytes).
           RAM is used to store data, images, sound, or an application program in which the
           temporary storage.
       c. Hard Drive, serves as a magnetic data storage media.
       d. VGA (Video Graphics Array) card, serves to convert the data to be displayed on
            monitor.
       e. Monitor is the output device which serves to show the working process of the computer.

In addition to common computer hardware, also required some additional hardware, allowing you to access the Internet through a computer. Here are some of the hardware required :

       a. Modem.  
           Divided into two, namely the internal modem and external modem. This tool is used to
           transmit data in the form of electromagnetic waves from a another computer or device  
           to convert analog signals into
           digital signals and vice versa.
       b. UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) and STP (Shielded Twisted Pair).
       c. RJ 45 connector, used for connecting UTP cable.
       d. Coaxial cable, was used as reducer and invert the signal so as not to disturb
           the original signal.
       e. Wireless adapters, used as a controller attached peripherals without using wires.  
           These adapters are usually shaped card or circuit board that contains elekronika.
       f. Switching, is used to connect a data communication path from each network segment 
           to a specific network.
       g. Roter, used to select the destination network and forwards the data packet delivery 
           in specific network. The difference compared to the modem router, the router  
           is only used in network servers. In this case, the router and modem is one unit on 
           a network server. On the system rather than the network router is not required, 
           simply by using a modem to connect a PC with a telecommunication network.
       h. Ethernet card (LAN card), used as a network interface card for transmission  
           of data across computers that are connected. Ethrnet card that is also called 
           the Network Interface Card (NIC) can be purchased as needed. If using UTP cable, 
           it would require an Ethernet card with UTP interface. If using a BNC cable, it would 
           require an Ethernet card with BNC interface. Ethernet cards that are in the market 
           today is the UTP and the BNC interface, called the network card combo.
           Ethernet card works by using a data transfer rate in units of bits per second (bps). 
           The data transfer rate starts from 10 bps, 100bps, and 1000 bps.

2. Software

Software requirements are determined by the needs of the hardware used. If you are using a Pentium 75 processor, the operating system that allows for the Pentium 75 was Windows 95. If the computer processor used is a Pentium 4, then the operating system used is Windows XP or Windows Vista.  
Several types and versions of software can be used is as follows :

      a. Operating systems, including Windows 95, Linux,  Unix, Mac OS, MS-Dos, etc.
      b. Browser : Netscape, Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.
      c. Email : Internet email, outlook express  
      d. Chat : mIRC, ICQ, Yahoo messenger
      e. FTP (File Transfer Protocol), including Godzilla, WSFTP, etc.

3. Line Telepon

Phone line is one of the most important requirement for accessing the Internet. Phone lines can be connected via modem, either external or internal modem. In addition to using the phone line, you can access or open the Internet through the following channels: 

      a. Satellite
      b. Cable Tv Channels
      c. Radio waves
